Using Oracle 12c Exalogic Elastic Cloud

on October 30, 2015

You can monitor various aspects of Exalogic Elastic Cloud from OEM Cloud Control 12c. Note that the Exalogic Elastic Cloud is considered a system target, not a group target. Following are the different types of Exalogic Elastic cloud targets you can manage from OEM Cloud Control 12c.

  • Application deployments
  • WebLogic domains
  • IB switch
  • Coherence clusters

Using the Exalogic Elastic Cloud Discovery Wizard
One important thing you must understand when you’re planning to add any Exalogic targets to EMCC is that, unlike in the case of other targets such as databases and middleware, the Exalogic Elastic Cloud Discovery Wizard doesn’t actually discover or add the targets to EMCC. In order to monitor Exalogic targets through EMCC, you must have first made targets out of all the individual components that are part of the Exalogic Elastic Cloud. Once you’ve done this, you can then run the Exalogic Elastic Cloud Discovery Wizard, which maps the targets it sees in the Exalogic Elastic Cloud and maps them to existing EM targets before adding those targets as members of the Exalogic Elastic Cloud.
You can access and use the Exalogic Elastic Cloud Discovery Wizard by following these steps:
1.   Select Exalogic Elastic Cloud from the Add drop-down page on the Systems page. Click Go.
2.   You’ll see the Discover Exalogic Elastic Cloud page. Enter the name of the Oracle Exalogic Target you want to monitor in the Name field.
3.   Specify the Management Agent you wish to perform the discovery. Click Next.
4.   You’ll see the Discover Oracle Exalogic Targets: Discovered targets page next. This page shows all hosts that were discovered. Click Finish, which will end the discovery process.
5.   The new target is now displayed in the Systems page, and you’ll receive a confirmation about the addition of the target to the Exalogic Elastic Cloud instance.
Using the Exalogic Elastic Cloud Home Page and Dashboard
You can view performance metrics as well as alert information for the following targets in the Exalogic Elastic Cloud:

  • Application deployments
  • WebLogic domains
  • Coherence clusters
  • Hosts

In addition, by accessing the Hardware tab, you can also access information regarding the hardware and infrastructure of the Exalogic Elastic Cloud itself.
To access the Exalogic Elastic Cloud Dashboard, go to the Systems page and choose Exalogic Elastic Cloud from the Search field drop-down list. Click Go to display the Exalogic Elastic Cloud Home page. Choose a component name, such as a WebLogic domain, from the drop-down menu. Let’s say you did select the WebLogic Domains Summary page. You’ll then see charts that show the status of WebLogic Servers, Request Processing Time metric information, CPU Usage, Requests per minute, and Heap Usage data. You can view general information about an Exalogic target by choosing General Information from the drop-down menu. Similarly, the Application Deployments, the Hosts page, and the Coherence Clusters page show details about the hosted applications, the hosts, and the Coherence Clusters, respectively. For example:

  • The Application Deployments page lets you view details about the applications hosted on the hosts running on the Exalogic Elastic Cloud target.
  • The Coherence Clusters page shows details about the Coherence targets hosted on the virtual machines running on the Exalogic Elastic Cloud target.
  • The Hosts page shows details about the host targets hosted on the virtual machines running on the Exalogic Elastic Cloud target.
