A recent client engagement required stepping beyond database tuning into the realms of training and cross-team understanding, two things database administrators don’t normally consider in their job scope. This presentation gives a good example of why having a DevOps perspective—that is, a focus on development and operations working together—adds value, because in the end developers and database administrators have the same goal—delivering data to the application user.
This presentation explores what Oracle database administrators call “SGA Thrashing” or “Buffer Cache Thrashin” and whether they can cause severe performance degradation. Here, I help level-set the understanding between the database administration and developer teams, so that each understood how their “piece of the pie” impacted the whole pie, and how they could work together to deliver better database performance.
